5 Big Protests happening around the World!

You surely know about the Farmer’s protest and why it’s happening. But do you know about the protests in Russia, Myanmar, Iraq and Arab countries and the reason behind them?

Let’s know about those protests and why they are happening!

2021 Russian Protests!

Protests in Russia started on 23 January, 2021 in support of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. Navalny is the main opposition leader and organised many operations & rallies against Putin’s government. Many attempts to kill him happened till now, but he survived every time.

Alexei Navalny got arrested on 17 January, 2021 when he reached Moscow, returning from Berlin. Reason behind the arrest was a video that Navalny posted on Youtube, showing the corruption by Putin & a palace Putin had build for himself.

Till now the video has crossed 109 Million views and it’s in Russian language. Around 1/3 population of Russia has seen this video.

Thousands of protesters from around 70 cities where temperature has reached -50Β° joined together to protest against Putin Government and in support to free Navalny.

Myanmar’s Ani-Coup Protests!

Myanmar is our neighbour country and it’s army was in power from 1962 to 2011 & Aung San Suu Kyi formed government for the first time in 2015. Military, carried out coup on 1 February and detained/arrested the democratically elected government of Myanmar. The PM of Myanmar, Aung San Suu Kyi was also detained in the coup.

The news about the coup break out when the army TV station of Myanmar announced that elected leaders were detained for alleged fraud in elections. It also announced that Army will be in power for next one year.

Protest break out in Yangon, capital of Myanmar. Factory Workers and Students are participating in the protest demanding the release of those arrested in the coup.

Military has ordered to shut down internet in whole country. More and more people from the country are joining dissent against the military coup.

2019-2021 Iraq Protests

The 2019-2021 Iraq protest started against corruption, unemployment, poor public services, low wages, and some other reasons. The protest started on 1 October, 2019 when social activists called to protests against the government all over the country.

Till now government used many techniques to stop the dissent but failed. Live bullets, hot water, hot pepper sprays also used against protesters which led to many deaths and injuries.

These protests are the largest incidents since the 2003 Iraq invasion. The main motive behind the dissent is to overthrow the current ruling government.

2018-2021 Arab Spring Protests

A series of protests are going in several Arab countries including Tunisia, Morocco, Sudan, Jordan , Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon and Syria. Protests are result of anti government sentiment in these countries. These are also known as Second Arab Spring or New Arab Spring.

These protests resulted into many big changes in above mentioned countries. Like in Tunisia, 2018 budget was repealed in light of these dissent, Jordan’s then PM Hani Multi resigned from his post in 2018. In 2018, protests resulted into resignation of Iraq PM. In 2020, Syrian PM sacked from his seat because of the protests.

Farmer’s Protest in India

Farmer’s protests in India started from Punjab in August,2020 against the three Farmer’s bills passed by Central government. Protests reached at national level in November when thousands of Farmers came to protests ate Delhi borders from Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, U.P. and other states.

Farmer’s protests are still going on at Delhi borders. Incident of clash between Police and Farmers happened at 26 Jnauary,2021. Many international celebrities tweeted in support of the protest and right now this has become point of discussion in the country.
